Isn't the Libertarian position that the best government is no government? New Orleans was a Libertarian paradise, but I don't see anybody defending that. Isn't the more common conservative position that local government is preferable to national government? New Orleans is also a good example of what is wrong with that point of view. The New Orleans police force at full strength was 1700 officers, for a city of half a million people. That doesn't sound like a lot of people to contend with a disaster of this magnitude. This timeline deliberately ignores the horror stories and tales of what was not done, but that is a crucial bias. The horror stories and tales of what was not done are the true story of New Orleans.
